Static Force Model of Pneumatic Artificial Muscles

چکیده

Pneumatic actuators convert pneumatic energy into mechanical motion. This motion can be linear or rotary. Linear motion is feasible with pneumatic cylinders (e. g. single-acting cylinder, double-acting cylinder, rodless cylinder) and pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs). Pneumatic artificial muscle is the newest and most promising type of pneumatic actuators. PAM is a membrane that expands radially and contracts axially when inflated, while generating high pulling forces along the longitudinal axis. The force and motion produced by PAM are linear and unidirectional. Different designs of PAM have already been developed. Recently Fluidic Muscle manufactured by Festo Company and Shadow Air Muscle manufactured by Shadow Robot Company are the most popular and commercially available. The most often mentioned characteristic of PAMs is the force as a function of pressure and contraction. In this paper our newest function approximation for the force generated by Fluidic Muscles is shown that can be generally used for different muscles made by Festo Company.

Comparison of Different Methods for Numerical Approximation of Static Characteristics of McKibben Pneumatic Artificial Muscle

Pneumatic artificial muscles exhibit highly non-linear static characteristics especially due to inherent properties of their materials and compressibility of air. Therefore, it is difficult to control them without adequate modeling and simulation. The paper deals with the numerical approximation of the static characteristics of McKibben pneumatic artificial muscle. The muscle force dependence o...

Pneumatic Artificial Muscles Force Modelling and the Position and Stiffness Control on the Knee Joint of the Musculoskeletal Leg

Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) have properties similar to biological muscle and are widely used in robotics as actuators. A musculoskeletal leg mechanism driven by PAMs is presented in this paper. The joint stiffness of the musculoskeletal bionic leg for jumping movement needs to be analysed. The synchronous control on the position and stiffness of the joint is important to improve the fle...

The Concept and Design of Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles

This paper describes the design of a new type of Pneumatic Artificial Muscle (PAM), namely the Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscle (PPAM). It was developed as an improvement with regard to existing types of PAM, e.g. the McKibben muscle. Its principle characteristic is its pleated membrane. It can inflate without material stretching and friction and has practically no stress in the direction pe...

Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) are becoming more commonly used as actuators in modern robotics. The most made and common type of these artificial muscles in use is the McKibben artificial muscle that was developed in 1950’s. This paper presents the geometric model of PAM and different Matlab models for pneumatic artificial muscles. The aim of our models is to relate the pressure and length...
